Family trips usually involve elders, children, multiple flight tickets, and accommodation. Once the Vietnam e-visa name does not match the passport, it does not affect just one person, but the whole family’s itinerary. This article organizes the most common name errors in family E-Visa applications, remedy methods, and expedited service timing.
Why Is the Visa Risk Higher for Family Travel?
Family trips often involve applying for multiple visas at once. If even one visa has a wrong name, passport number, date of birth, or entry date, it may cause one family member to be unable to board. In particular, children’s passport spelling, surname order, middle names, double surnames, and hyphens are more likely to be filled in incorrectly during application.
The Vietnam E-Visa system compares the passport machine-readable zone (MRZ). If the visa name does not match the passport, it may be considered invalid. Unlike solo travel, family trips cannot easily change itineraries at the last minute. If one person is stuck, the whole family may be affected.

The Most Common Name Errors in Family Vietnam E-Visa Applications
-
The child’s surname is different from the adult’s, but the same format is used
-
The given name has two words, but they are written together
-
The passport has a hyphen, and it is copied directly
-
Middle name omitted
-
Name order filled in reverse
-
English spelling different from the passport
-
Applying for multiple people at once and copy-paste causing data to be misplaced
When a Name Error Is Found, How Should the Whole Family Handle It?
1. First Confirm Whose Visa Is Wrong
Family applications often submit multiple cases at once. First compare each one with the passport MRZ, and confirm which person the error belongs to.
2. Not Yet Issued: Wait for Supplementary Documents or Resubmit
If you receive an immigration officer’s supplementary document notice, correct it according to the Comments. If it has not yet been issued and no notice has been received, you can wait first, but if time is tight, it is safer to reapply directly.
3. Already Issued: That Visa Cannot Be Used
The official system cannot modify it online. The visa with the wrong name must be reapplied for. If the other family members’ information is correct, they are usually not affected.
4. Departing Soon: Consider Expedited Service
If the whole family’s tickets have been issued and accommodation has been booked, and there are only a few days left before flying, reapplying yourself is risky. The expedited service can issue the visa in as fast as 2 working hours, but only on working days.

Family Travel FAQ
Q1: If only one person’s visa name is wrong, can the whole family not fly?
Not necessarily. But that member may be unable to board or enter the country. Family trips usually move together, so in practice it means the whole family is affected.
Q2: Can I fill in only the child’s English name?
No. It must be based on the passport MRZ, and a customary English name cannot be used.
Q3: Can it be handled at the Vietnam airport?
Not recommended. The airport cannot modify an e-visa on the spot, and the risk is too high.
Q4: Is it faster to reapply for the whole family together?
If the information is correct and there is enough time, you can reapply yourself. If time is urgent, it is recommended to have an agency or expedited service handle it uniformly.
